Winchester-Western "White Flyer"    Electric Trap (Model V1524)

There were more than 16,000 V1524s manufactured by Western from 1950 to 1990. This is more than any other manufacturer.

Commonly referred to as "X" traps or "handsets", these traps were the benchmark for ATA target presentation.

Western never placed the model number on the machine.  Just the serial number above the switch plate starting with "X" for V1524 and a "XS" for V1579.

The trap is powered by 115 V AC and features a 1/3 HP 1725 RPM cocking  motor that draws 8 amps. In remote applications, these traps are powered by generator or inverter with a deep cycle battery.

Targets are commonly released by a "puller" through use of a manual push button control switch (X400) on the end of the pull cord which is then connected to the trap.  Various voice activation systems for personal or club use are also available and compatible with the trap.

The Western trap has simple hand adjustments for target distance, elevation, windage and curl. Targets can be thrown to 100 yards.

The Western trap offers tremendous versatility. The trap is capable of throwing one or two targets.  It's also equipped with an angle changing disc (X33W) which varies the target presentation in accordance with ATA rules. Targets can be released at random with horizontal (side to side) oscillation or without.  The shooter selects the desired presentation by selecting the center hole in the X33 for doubles or one of the four eccentric holes for Trap which varies the horizontal oscillation from between 44 to 94 degrees. Western Retro also makes a Wobble Kit to provide vertical (up & down) oscillation. This changes the height of the target from between 1.5 & 3 meters.

A Western handset trap requires a person or "trap boy" to manually load each clay pigeon onto the throwing arm. Over the past few years, this has become a safety and liability concern for shooting ranges. Not to mention, trap boys are an added labor expense and hard to find when you need one.  Western Retro has solved these problems with the TrapLoader CS270 for club use and the TrapLoader DS100 for personal practice.

Western Retro provides complete restoration services for your Western trap. You'll find  further resources including an owners manuals & parts list here.

We also purchase used traps and provide customers the option to exchange theirs for one of our refurbished machines. Download our product brochures and latest pricing list or contact us at ian@westernretro.net.
